I Want the Moon

In Astronomical Observatory of Brera, there’ll be the chance to observe the installation ‘I Want the Moon: the art installation to touch the moon with a finger’ by Luca Ballestra, known as the Moon Artist.

The Brera district will have MATERIA NATURA as its main theme for this year, hence “I Want the Moon” installation reflects on our deep bond with nature and the universe that surrounds us, investigating the materiality of the lunar surface in a place dedicated to the study of space.

The Moon appears to have been captured inside a room for this installation, which offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in an unforgettable experience, almost reminiscent of the huge telescope the Museum owns.

Visiting the Museum, being transported by Luca Ballestra’s art, and immersing yourself in a parallel world is the objective for a fresh perspective on spaces that hold a lot of history.

The essence of multiple lunar shades is captured by Luca Ballestra through the innovative use of lights, colors, and materials. I Want the Moon is more than just an art installation; it is a philosophy, an invitation to experience the emotion of touching the Moon with a finger and be inspired by its timeless beauty. The project adapts and integrates with the Museum to take a journey through space and masterfully combine matter and nature in a fascinating vision.

The illustrations “Past – Mars – Future” by Alice Sironi, will be also displayed during the gallery visit.

ABOUT
Luca Ballestra, also known as “the Artist of the Moon”, dedicates his artistic research to the Moon and celebrates with evocative emphasis the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing.
Thereafter, inspired by poor materials and a sense of plastic three-dimensionality, he continues to try his hand at mortar, enamels and acrylics, creating a series of Moons on circular canvases, giving life to his project “I Want the Moon” – a parallel world where everyone can mirror and touch the Moon with a finger, but above all explore the concept of space.
Withing his experimentation, the artist creates a further series of works entitled “Moonlight”, bringing together the material technique, the classical studies of oil painting and his passion for photography, thus creating real cuts of the sky impressed on canvas.

These material works were created by Luca Ballestra to make art accessible to everyone, break down barriers, and ignite interest in both art and astronomy culture.
Over the years his Moons have been exhibited in Italy and in New York City.

His art is constantly evolving between physical and digital space. It approaches, in fact, the use of 3D Rendering creating digital works in NFTs, where the protagonist is always our satellite immersed in surreal worlds.
